Odisha government to make Aadhar Card mandatory for procurement of paddy

In a bid to maintain transparency and ensure quick payment of dues, the Odisha government has decided to make Aadhar Card mandatory for procurement of paddy in the state. In a meeting at the state secretariat in Bhubaneswar held on 11 August 2016, it was decided to link Aadhaar cards of farmers to the cooperative banks and the peasants’ accounts for online transfer of cost of paddy to be procured from the coming kharif season. Both farmers and sharecroppers would link their Aadhaar cards for online payment of paddy cost. This apart, the government has also decided to link Aadhaar numbers of beneficiaries for availing ration under National Food Security Scheme and work under MG-NREGA. So far 68 percent people have already availed Aadhar Card and others would be provided with the same before November 2016.

Odisha government launches Baristha Bunakar Sahayata Yojana

Odisha government on 7 August 2016 launched a special assistance scheme for elderly weavers, ‘Baristha Bunakar Sahayata Yojana’, to mark the National Handlooms Day. On the occasion, chief minister Naveen Patnaik also gave away awards to weavers' cooperative societies who have been relentlessly promoting and producing the traditional weaves of Odisha.
Under the scheme all weavers above the age of 60 years would get a monthly pension of 500 rupees, and those above 80 years would get 700 rupees. The scheme is aimed at improving the financial condition of over 8000 weavers, who have been working in this field for the last 20 years. The pension amounts would be directly sent to the beneficiaries bank accounts.

Pay Scale: Rs.9300 – 34800/- Per Month
Age Limit: The age of the candidate should not be less than 21 years and should not be more than of 35 years. The age of the applicant should be as on 1st day of April 2016.
Qualification: Candidates should have degree in automobile engineering or mechanical engineering with automobile engineering as a subject and possess to license to drive a transport vehicle.

Transgenders to be appointed as jail warders in Odisha

Odisha government has decided to recruit transgenders as jail warders as per the directive of the Supreme Court. For implementation of the directive of the apex court, the State Police has informed the Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission for recruitment of transgenders as jail waders. They will have to succeed in the qualifying examination with other candidates
In a letter to the ADG-cum-IG of Prisons, and Department of Correctional Service (DCS) on July 27 this year, Union home deputy secretary B. Mishra had sought a clarification on inclusion of the transgenders as a gender category in recruitment of jail warders by keeping their physical standards at the same level as that of women candidates as per the observation of the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
