Fish Pond Yojana, Odisha: Odisha government on 27th November introduced 'Fish Pond Yojana', a state sponsored scheme, for creation of additional water bodies for freshwater aquaculture in 2,200 hectares of land. The government has also decided to provide subsidy to farmers for this purpose. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik declared this while attending a workshop organised by the fisheries and animal resources development (FARD) department here. He said the Yojana will ensure income generation and employment creation through promotion of aquaculture.
He said the contribution from Fisheries and Livestock sectors was reported to have increased significantly – marking a 33.35 time increase during this period. He added Livestock and Fisheries sectors play an important role in the development of rural economy in the state. These sectors have a tremendous relevance for the livelihood of small and marginal farmers who derive a substantial part of their income from the sale of milk, meat, egg and fish, Patnaik said.
